What style of dance is WonderBeats?

WonderBeats isn’t tied to just one style—it’s a feel-good fusion shaped by the playlist of the week!

Classes blend the flavour of street grooves and urban moves with movement inspired by West African and Afro-diasporic dance traditions. It’s all about movement that feels good in your body—playful, grounded, full of soul and swagger—and always in conversation with the beats we’re moving to.


What music will we be dancing to?

Think feel-good beats that sink you deep into the groove. Expect a mix of 90s hip hop, disco, funk, soul, and global rhythms. Sometimes fresh, sometimes old-school—but always guaranteed to get you moving.

Who teaches WonderBeats?

Hi, my name is Liz. My movement style is rooted in traditional West African dance—rich, rhythmic, and deeply communal—shaped by 25+ years of dance experience in Australia, Guinea, and France. Over time, I paired this with explorations in street styles, and teacher training with a Melbourne-based dance company, reinforcing my belief that coordinated, feel-good movement should be accessible to all bodies.

At the heart of WonderBeats is my unwavering belief in the magic of dancing together, with great beats and in shared joy. The benefits of dance are endless and that’s why I do this work- because moving as a collective is not only fun, it’s essential.

Where are classes held?

What should I wear to class?

Anything that allows you to move freely and be yourself. Loose or fitted. Comfy sneakers or bare feet. Whatever feels good.


How do I know if WonderBeats is for me?

If a FREE TRIAL CLASS class is not advertised, the best way to find out is to pop-in to a class of any Course, or come to a DROP-IN class if available. Its the perfect chance to experience the vibe, meet the community, and see how the movement and rhythms feel in your body.


Do I need previous dance experience to join WonderBeats?

No dance experience is required! This is a judgement-free zone. Whether you are a complete beginner, a seasoned dancer or returning to dance, this class is for everyone! It’s all about having fun, and embracing the joy of dancing together in a follow-along format.


What can I expect a class to look like?

Each class kicks off with a fun and energising warm-up designed to build mobility, balance, and strength. We then break down and drill key moves that form the foundation of the week’s choreography. The highlight? A short, fresh routine to a different track each session—new moves, new vibes, every time! (unless of course we are working on a specific choreography over a number of weeks). We finish with a grounding cool-down to leave you feeling relaxed, centred, and uplifted.


How physically demanding are the classes?

The classes are designed to be accessible, but they definitely offer a challenge—especially as we work through choreography that builds coordination, rhythm, and movement quality. It’s less about fast or complex footwork, and more about engaging your body and brain in a fun, focused way. You’re always welcome to take things at your own pace—bring the energy that feels right for you! Whether you’re here to improve fitness, relieve stress, connect with others, or grow your dance skills, these sessions meet you where you’re at while encouraging progress each week.


What age range does WonderBeats cater for?

As a general guide, 18 -55 yrs.

This is a just a guide and older participants are welcome to come along and see how the movement and rhythms feel in their bodies.
